Back & Neck Care Chiropractic & Sports Massage - Chiropractic Care FAQ

A Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) is qualified to provide services as a primary care physician. Becoming a DC involves more than 4000 hours of experience in the classroom, laboratory and clinical settings learning techniques and improving skills. Each doctor completes roughly nine of education studying chemistry, human anatomy, biology, diagnostic imaging, nutrition, physiology and neurology with a strong emphasis on diagnosing and treating conditions associated with spine joints, ligaments and muscles throughout the spine.

What kind of conditions do chiropractors treat?

Our chiropractors, Dr. Michael Pettet and Dr. Jeffrey Melin, offer a wide range of services for people who suffer injuries from auto accidents and sports related activities, as well as chronic illnesses and back and neck pain. Restoring proper spinal alignment is also an effective treatment for reducing acid reflux (hiatal hernias), managing diabetes and hypertension, and improving overall health.

What happens during a chiropractic adjustment?

The chiropractor uses his hands, or an assistive instrument, to gently guide the joints into proper alignment, restoring normal function. Each manipulation is precisely controlled. Most people report no discomfort during the adjustment and many note positive improvements immediately after treatment.

How does treatment help the body heal?

Restoring spinal alignment relieves inflammation and allows the body to heal itself naturally in several ways. First, proper alignment reduces pain. Manipulation clears interference caused by pinched nerves, enabling the brain to communicate more effectively with other parts of the body, which improves circulation and allows more oxygen-rich blood necessary to recover to reach muscles, tissues and cells.

How long does it take for treatment to working?

Our treatment protocol involves two primary goals, relieve pain and identify the source of the pain. Some of our Vancouver, WA patients see improvement immediately following the first treatment. Depending on the nature of your illness or accident, you may need to return for several visits over the course of a few weeks.

Why do you recommend other treatment methods like massage and acupuncture?

Corrective chiropractic care enables highly-effective pain management; however, we want all of our patients to feel their very best and experience a vibrant, active lifestyle. Our doctors may recommend nutritional counseling or one of our complementary services to achieve maximum wellness benefits.

  • Sports rehab services, such as hot and cold therapy, reduce swelling.
  • Routine sports massage improves athletic performance and reduces training injury risks.
  • Soft tissue massage helps the body flush out lactic acid and replenishes oxygen supplies to the muscles.
  • Acupuncture is a drug-free pain relief alternative, which reduces pain without harmful side effects and boosts an overall sense of well-being.

Do you accept insurance?

We offer a broad range of payment options for our Vancouver area patients, including cash, checks, credit cards, auto and health insurance, flex benefits and an in-house payment plan.
