I'm Desiree, a 2016 graduate from Everest College where I studied Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, pregnancy and infant massage, sports massage, and energy healing among other modalities. My passion for massage therapy began during my childhood when I was able to offer some comfort to my mother's chronic pain through massage. She suffered from neck pain due to multiple motor vehicle accidents with a prior diagnosis of scoliosis before age 11. Through helping her, I developed the passion to help others and later realized that massage would fulfill this passion.
My sessions can be focused on relaxation, treatment or injury rehabilitation. I enjoy helping increase range of motion and mobility, as well as body awareness. I have a nurturing nature and strong intuition, but I listen closely and monitor non-verbal cues to achieve the goals discussed with each client at the beginning of the session. My style of massage combines, but is not limited to, deep tissue and trigger point therapy, also incorporating the use of hot stones, aromatherapy and raindrop technique when needed. I have a strong desire for growth and expansion and look forward to increasing the range of modalities I use.
When I am not working, I enjoy time with my family, crafting and laughing with my friends or getting out and enjoying all the beauty the Pacific Northwest has to offer, from the coast to the mountains, fields and streams.
Hi! My name is Sadie Lira. Originally, I am from Anchorage, Alaska and moved to the Portland area in 2016. I have been practicing Massage Therapy for seven years now, but got my start in the business by chance. Fresh out of high school, I enrolled in a four-year college and found myself extremely unhappy. I felt like I didn’t really have a path to success, so I quit! I left the four-year college and started looking into vocational school (I’ve always been a “hands-on” “small group” kind of person). At first, I was looking for a school that offered a culinary program, because I really enjoy cooking, but during my search I stumbled upon a school that offered Massage Therapy and suddenly something clicked! I realized that massage would be the perfect path for me. I checked out the school and loved it, so I started there and never looked back.
I quickly realized that massage had been in my life the whole time and I simply never considered it as a career path. I even started a back massage portion of our nap time in kindergarten class, and I’m pretty sure one of my first words was “back,” indicating to my parents that I wanted them to rub my back.
My first job in massage was in the spa business in Anchorage. Not long after that I made the move down to Bellingham, Washington to get a change of scenery, and it ended up being the best move of my life! I was able to continue my career in massage, while also gaining some management skills. While living there, I met the love of my life. I continued working in massage while my now husband finished up his college career. We were outgrowing Bellingham pretty quickly and knew we wanted to make the move to a bigger city. Portland has always been appealing to the both of us, so we decided to make the move down. Since I already had my Washington state massage license, I chose to make the drive north and continue my work in Vancouver.
I found my way to Dr. Pettet’s office and couldn’t be happier! I love being able to really focus on the overall wellness of my patients. Not only can I treat them to the best of my ability, I can recommend other complimentary treatments that are available in our office to ensure the upmost care and wellness of our patients.
Hello my name is Li Yuan and I have been practicing as a massage therapist for about 6 years now. My journey as a massage therapist began in my hometown in China, where I worked in a chiropractic office that specializes in traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture to help patients recover from their injuries and assist with healing.
Upon moving to the United States, I attended Golden Bridge College in Los Angeles, CA where I completed my 750 hours of massage therapy studies and passed the Massage and Bodyworks Licensing Examination in 2016.
Following my massage schooling, I worked in a Spa environment for about three years in Coronado, CA before recently moving to my home here in Vancouver and planting roots here at Back & Neck Care Chiropractic.
I specialize in therapeutic deep tissue, sports, shiatsu and Swedish massage techniques. My favorite part of my work as a massage therapist is assisting the healing process by working out the problem areas and relaxation. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with family and working in my garden.
